Mahle is the market leader in electric vehicles and a pioneer in the future of mobility. Through the continuous search for more efficient, comfortable, and environmentally friendly solutions, it contributes to the success of e-mobility.

Three core values are embedded in the DNA of Mahle's SmartBike Systems: light, sport, and smart. The first pillar, "light," refers to the lightweight nature of the eBikes, which feel like a regular bike but with much faster speeds. This is also evident in the E-Grifn, where Mahle's system weighs only 3.2 kilograms.

"Sport" represents Mahle's alternative to the large, heavy batteries that are often seen as disruptive. The company has developed a new generation of high-performance systems that deliver exactly the power you need, eliminating unnecessary weight. This was an important shift towards eRoad and eGravel, two terrains where the E-Grifn excels.

In the E-Grifn, the support is proportional to the power you apply to the pedals. This is possible through a torque sensor in the bottom bracket that communicates with the software. If you’re not pedaling, the system provides no power. Consequently, it feels like you always have a pleasant tailwind. This way, every ride remains a sporty endeavor.

"Smart" refers to Mahle's integration of artificial intelligence in assisting the rider. Data is continuously analyzed to create a unique experience. The entire system communicates via ANT+ or Bluetooth. This translates to the E-Grifn, where you can access the necessary information on the go through the bike computer. With Mahle's app, you can control and customize the motor to your preferences. The system is self-learning and adapts to your cycling behavior, making electric biking a comfortable experience.

The Mahle X20 system consists of several components. The battery is the most important and connects to the X20 drive unit in the rear wheel and the torque sensor in the pedals. Additionally, the system includes e-shifters, a head unit in the top tube, the pulsar one system in the handlebar, and an extra range extender. For the E-Grifn, we chose the battery with the largest capacity (350Wh), and with the 171Wh range extender, you can tackle almost any cycling challenge. The Mahle X20 motor provides up to 250 watts of extra assistance with torque comparable to a 55-newton-meter mid-drive motor. At the highest support level, this helps you conquer the toughest climbs.

The head unit is the heart of the SmartBike system, providing all the information about your assistance at a glance. Each support level has a different color, while the battery level is indicated by a separate bar. The system info is displayed through animations.
