About E-Grifn Gravel

With the E-Grifn, you go further, longer, and higher than ever before. We chose the Mahle X20 drive unit for its very natural riding feel.

A distinctive feature of this e-bike is the choice of the Mahle X20 drive unit. This is a compact and proven system that makes the impossible possible. The assistance is proportional to the force you apply to the pedals, achieved through the use of a torque sensor in the bottom bracket communicating with the software. You feel like you're always riding with a delightful breeze at your back, making every journey feel like a sporty endeavor.

An advantage of the X20 motor is that it runs virtually without additional mechanical resistance above the limit of 25 kilometers per hour. The power delivery of the system gradually fades out, ensuring a very fluid bike experience. This also contributes to the natural feeling on the bike. Moreover, you can control the motor with your smartphone via the Mahle app and customize it to your preferences. The system even adapts to your riding behavior. With Mahle X20, you have three levels of bike assistance tailored specifically for the Grifn by our product managers in collaboration with Mahle. This 'custom mapping' is a typical example of our eternal quest for perfection.

The geometry of the E-Grifn is the same as that of the Grifn RS, with a removable front derailleur clamp, space for tires up to 42 millimeters, and the UDH hanger. The battery is neatly integrated into the frame, maintaining the sporty look of the E-Grifn.

Custom mapping

With the Mahle X20, you have three levels of bike assistance, specifically tailored for the Grifn by our product managers in collaboration with Mahle. We chose to determine these levels ourselves rather than opting for the standard settings, conducting various test sessions with different types of riders until the ideal three levels were found. This custom mapping exemplifies our eternal pursuit of perfection. Switching between the different assistance levels can be done via the satellite buttons on the handlebars or via the controller on the top tube, which also visually displays the battery capacity and assistance level. The system is ANT+ compatible, allowing battery status, support level, and personal power to be available to other ANT+ compatible devices.

Mahle X20: a natural ride experience

The Mahle X20 drive unit is a compact and proven system that makes the impossible possible. The assistance is proportional to the force applied to the pedals, made possible by a torque sensor in the bottom bracket communicating with the software. Importantly, the system provides power only when you pedal, maintaining the feeling of riding a bike with a gentle breeze at your back. Additionally, the X20 motor operates virtually without additional mechanical resistance above the 25 kilometers per hour limit, ensuring a fluid riding experience.  In summary, Mahle stands for three pillars: light, sport, and smart!

Mahle X20: a natural ride experience

Mahle battery with the largest capacity (350Wh)

For the E-Grifn, Ridley has opted for the battery with the largest capacity (350Wh), with the option to expand it further with a 171 Wh range extender that replaces a water bottle holder. Based on user data from Mahle, engineers know that the 350 Wh battery is sufficient for most rides in this all-road segment. The battery can be charged to 80% in 2 hours and fully in 3.5 hours. Integrated neatly into the frame, the battery results in the appearance of a sporty bike with the added support of an e-bike.

Optimized tire clearance

For the E-Grifn, Ridley opts for a slightly wider tire clearance compared to the Grifn. With 42 millimeters, they typically provide ample capability to handle a variety of gravel obstacles. This maintains a balance between speed and agility on one hand, and comfort and stability on the other. Of course, on the road, you can easily switch wheels or tires to opt for a narrower one if needed.

Two worlds, one bike

With the Grifn family, you can hit the road as well as the off-road. You simply change wheelsets and do a gran fondo gravel on Saturday and hit the road the day after with the regular cycling club. With this family, you no longer need any other bikes.

Two worlds, one bike

All-road geometry

The geometry of the Ridley Grifn is the superb overlap of a stiff racing- and a tolerant off-road frame! The goal is a reactive and nimble riding feel while keeping a stable handling on off-road terrain. The head tube angle of the Grifn is slightly flatter than the head tube angle of a road bike. Compared to a gravel bike, the head tube angle is sharper. This results in a completely new geometry, specifically designed for the all-road segment. The riders of Classified Ridley were also consulted and gave positive feedback on this all-roader.

UDH Hanger

The universal derailleur hanger (UDH) is the new standard in the cycling world. Not only is this derailleur hanger compatible with all modern shifting groups, it also protects against derailleur breakage and chain drops. In mountain biking, UDH has long been very common, and Ridley is bringing the technology to other segments as well.
